Lawsuits rather than Leadership?

March 3rd, 2007 · Comments Off on Lawsuits rather than Leadership?

Governor Bush pledged, if elected President, to “establish mandatory reduction targets for emissions of four main pollutants: sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury and carbon dioxide.”  When it came to regulated and controlling pollutants that threaten all American, President Bush has followed a far different path than Governor Bush designed.  This abandonment of pledged leadership has led to a series of lawsuits from state governments seeking CO2 emissions controls under the Clean Air Act.  Now, there is a new tack underway … suing for controls under the Clean Water Act.

Oil profits blowing into Wind?

March 3rd, 2007 · Comments Off on Oil profits blowing into Wind?

Knowing that there is no future in renewable energy, no profits to be made, two of the largest oil companies in the world have become big players in wind energy.   Shell Oil and BP (is it truly Beyond Petroleum?) are becoming real players in the wind energy field. Shell is in the top five of energy generated and BP plans to install about 1/6th of the total installations planned for the United States in 2007.

Hybrids — mileage performers?

February 27th, 2007 · Comments Off on Hybrids — mileage performers?

As reported in Green Car Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency reporting on the new fuel mileage standards enables analysis of where hybrids fall out. Much press reporting has discussed how the hybrids aren’t performing as ‘claimed’, using the new standards as a way to attach hybrids’ gas mileage as falling without examining the relative changes.  As per GCG, while there has been some dropping off in hybrids’ relative improvement compared to a non-hybrid variant, that fall in relative improvement is minor. (With the Honda Civic showing the greatest relative drop, remaining above 40%.) [Read more →]

Wave cool … Desalinization + Rnewable Power Generation. Does it get better than that?

February 22nd, 2007 · Comments Off on Wave cool … Desalinization + Rnewable Power Generation. Does it get better than that?

Okay, we probablly all agree, the VentureOne is iPod cool. But, chances are if you’re hanging out on this web site, defining cool for you (and me) doesn’t come from American Idol or the pages of People magazine, but more fundamentally about thinking and learning about things that have a real potential to change the world that we do and will live in.  Well, so, I for one think that Independent Natural Resources SEADOG(tm) Pump and linking it up with water desalinization so that there is zero-carbon energy and zero-carbon waste water desalinization is Wave Cool.   [Read more →]

ENERGIZE AMERICA: Neighborhood Power Act, round 3: Final Review, Two questions

February 21st, 2007 · Comments Off on ENERGIZE AMERICA: Neighborhood Power Act, round 3: Final Review, Two questions

As per Re-Energizing … ENERGIZE AMERICA …, the Energize America team (and all of Daily Kos) has been asked by a senior member of Congress to develop elements of the plan for introduction as legislation in the Congress.  To start with, we plan to develop 5-10 concept papers, fleshed out as best we can with community input, for then working with legislative counsel and other Congressional resources to arrive at the actual legislative initiatives.

Re-Energizing … ENERGIZE AMERICA has the full list of Energize America Acts that we plan to develop.  At this time, we are still developing our team approach (volunteers, comments, other contributions VERY WELCOME) and developing the plan for strengthening the Energize America 2020 as a home base for this activity.

This is a final draft (please) of The Neighborhood Power Act one-page summary.

Join the conversation after the fold … let us know what you think … what we’re missing … what is right here …
