Breaking news: Hundred+ collapse in Salt Lake City …

August 19th, 2009 · 3 Comments

Shocklingly unreported by most of the nation’s media, easily 100 people collapsed outside Salt Lake City’s Gallivan Center.  Exact numbers are hard to come by,  but this tragic moment sends a signal of a much larger catastrophe that will kill millions and, without action, billions in the years to come.  The bodies on the ground outside Gallivan Center should serve as a wake-up call to all of us.

Last Thursday, a flash mob struck during the Twilight Center concert to send a signal about Global Warming

At 8:17 pm, the bodies hit the ground as the large banner “Climate Change Kills” unrolled from the top of a parking garage.

The banner sat on the edge of the railing, and we peered down below at the thousands of concertgoers moving like ants through Gallivan Plaza.  It was dusk, and from the top of the parking garage we could see the Great Salt Lake ablaze with light from the setting sun. A perfect moment for some direct action.

There are many ways to educate, many ways to engage.

Flash mobs see their actions go viral via YouTube and can cost-effectively send messages to larger audiences.

The climate has been changing since the planet was formed.

Hmmm … please search, hard, for any place where I have denied that there has been climate change through natural means over time. Yes, that is true.

So climate change is responsible for all the life on earth. You can thank climate change for every breath you take.

Writ large, this is clearly a statement from a climate denier — one who rejects the basic science and is demonstrating suffering from anti-science syndrome in believing that they know more than the scientific community work showing that human action and influences are layering on top of natural processes to be driving a speed and extent of climate change that is moving us into a range of climate impacts not seen in the development of human civilization.

Yes. CO2 levels have been above today’s levels … how many millions of years ago? For the past million years or so, the planet has moved between 180 and 280 parts per million. We are now, essentially, at 390 and moving higher rapidly. Yes, CO2 is essential for life but we evolved as a species and as civilizations with a level far below where we are today and where we’re heading.

    Etc …

Evidently you are willing to roll the dice and gamble that you are absolutely right and the world’s leading scientific institutions are wrong. Sorry, but betting 00 on the craps table is not the way to plan humanity’s future.
