Going Gaga on BP …

June 5th, 2010 · 1 Comment

BP…lie lie ieesss
Yah so what, some birds die
Laugh Laugh to the bank
HA HA, an oil rig sank.

There are many ways to deal with tragedies and painful situations, with parody often being an effective path. Well, rewriting Lady Gaga with “Oilmance” might have captured how to think about Bloody Polluters.

See the lyrics and discussion of them after the fold.

Jamie at Somacow did this painfully accurate parody. Jamie wrote this of the parody:

I didn’t make this because I think this tragedy is funny. It is not funny. However, shedding light on the most devastating environmental disaster in our history, is my way of coping with the little impact that I as one person will have during this time.

Let stroll our way through the song.

Lyrics:

Oil Oillll…….
Your caught in big Oilmance
Oiiiiillll
Caught in a big oilmance

Okay, Lady Gaga isn’t exactly my daily fare, but the kids in the house love the songs and, well, hearing the sounds from too many angles in too many places.

BP…lie lie ieesss
Yah so what, some birds die
Laugh Laugh to the bank
HA HA, an oil rig sank.

The oceans big, after all, what can a little oil do and what is a bird or two against $billions in profits?

Lala we can’t hear
We got fingers in our ears
Close our eyes, dissappear
This is an oilmance

Sadly, not just BP, but too many have their fingers in their ears as to the havoc our fossil-foolish ways are creating for our lives today and tomorrow.

We want your money
You make us so rich
Get on your knees
Cause you are our bitch
We are BP….
Oil Oil Oil Oil……
We are BP……

Sigh … not my choice of image but perhaps appropriate …

We drilled and drilled
And nobody cared.
Until we spilled
Now you are all scared.
Its not that bad
Oil Oil Oil
maybe a tad

As pictures come in of oil-drenched birds, we can expect that many will scream with grief. Sadly, many of that many will let their attention wander … scared today but, sadly, deciding “its not that bad” tomorrow.

You know that we own you..
You have no choice..
You need my oil. Bad. Bad.

We “need BP oil bad” today and tomorrow but, if we get our act together, not the day after tomorrow.

If we don’t turn the tide on our oil addiction, this song will be ever so true.

We take your money
Then kill all your plants
Fish and Birds, all an oily mess
No more spring break
no more fishing trips
Your plans are spoiled by our small dicks.

How much will be “spoiled” by BP’s likely criminal negligence?

Oil Oillll
Caught in a big oilmance.
Oiiiiillll
Caught in a big oilmance.
We tried to stop it
We told a few lies
There is no ending
So don’t be surprised
The gulf is oil…
oil. oil. oil.
Engulfed in oil.

Boycott my stations
Tweet all your friends
Ill make a billion
Before this song ends
We are BP
Sneaky Sneaky ky ky

Well, boycotting the BP stations could well make sense … in a limited fashion. It will feel good but taking that step risks taking our eyes off the real prize: reducing our oil demand, on a continuing basis, so that there will be lesser chance of an oil spill with every passing day.

You know that we own you..
You have no choice..
(cause we own this bitch, baby!)
You need my oil Bad. Bad.

Dust off your bikes,
your old ten-speed
bike to work and you will see.
You’ll sweat your ass off
and look like a dork.
And quickly, come back to me.

We need to work to create real solutions, solutions that will capture the requirements of the larger population.

Dusting off the bikes is a viable step to take … but that can’t be all that we do.

Oil Oillll
Caught in a Big Oilmance.
Oiiiiillll
Caught in a Big Oilmance.

Oil Oil Spew like crazy
Spill that oil all over baby
Oil Oil Spew like crazy
Spill that oil all over baby
Oil Oil Spew like crazy
Spill that oil all over baby
Oil Oil Spew like crazy
Spill that oil all over baby

We’ve tried a lot
We are trying real hard.
Give us your hair
And we’ll clean it right up.

Built a big box
That did nothing at all
Our arms are tired
Stuffin tires and balls

Why can’t we be friends.
Why can’t we be friends.
We have an oilmance – A BP Oilmance

Shouldn’t we be happy?

After all, BP tried.

Isn’t that enough?

Isn’t it …

Build some turbines,
and Harness the Sun
this disaster cannot be undone.
I’ll kill the planet
before you kill me
This is not the last you’ve seen of me.

We have a choice before us … whether we allow the fossil foolish interests to continue profiteering off killing the planet’s ability to support human civilization. Or, will we build not some but massive numbers of turbines? Will we truly ‘harvest the sun’ recognizing that “this disaster cannot be undone” but that future disasters can be prevented?

Oil Oillll
Caught in a big oilmance
Oiiiiillll
Caught in a big oilmance

BP…lie lie ieesss
Yah so what, some birds die
Laugh Laugh to the bank
HA HA, an oil rig sank.
