New York Post: “We’re Screwed!” … “Gotham will suffer”

September 21st, 2009 · No Comments

“We’re screwed” is the banner headline in today’s New York Post focused on Climate Change, highlighting the risks that study (74 page pdf) after study after study show New York faces in coming years and decades in the face of unchecked catastrophic climate change.

The New York City Panel on Climate Change, led by an elite team of NASA scientists and climate experts from Columbia, CUNY and Rutgers, has concluded that unless carbon emissions are drastically reduced all over the world, New York faces dangerous increases in temperature (up to 7.5 degrees), extreme weather (hurricanes and intense storms) and sea level rise (as much as 4.5 feet).

According to the panel’s report, if all nations don’t drastically cut their carbon emissions, then Gotham will suffer

As part of the Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, which is “fair and balanced” between a sensible internal climate program for its own operations (and Murdoch’s clear acknowledgments of the serious risk his native Australia faces from Global Warming) and promotion of skeptic/denier truthiness in its media outlets, the New York Post is not exactly known for truthful discussion of climate change and clean energy issues which is why today’s edition is such a shocker for New Yorkers. Sigh … sadly … this is another satire from The Yes Men. (For a good discussion, see Just Say Yes Men!)

Although the 32-page New York Post is a fake, everything in it is 100% true, with all facts carefully checked by a team of editors and climate change experts.

As with so much of this work, the “satire” is taking a mouthpiece of disinformation and putting truthful information into its format, distributing it strategically within the regular distribution footprint. This is a strategic move with President Barack Obama scheduled to speak to issues of climate change at the UN tomorrow as part of a UN summit “where Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will push 100 world leaders to make serious commitments to reduce carbon emissions.”

By the way, don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to The Yes Men’s forthcoming movie, Fix The World.

NOTE: Speaking of movies … We almost certainly, based on the dialogue we hear from anti-science syndrome (A.S.S.) suffering haters of a livable enviornment (H.O.L.E.s) like Glenn Beck (and others from News Corp), living in an Age of Stupid. This film postulates inaction on climate change and has a historian, looking back from 2050, at 2008 to try to determine why humanity did not act in the face of the clarity of evidence as to serious risk and the clarity of the benefits of action (even above and beyond reducing the impacts of unchecked catastrophic climate change). This evening is a special, 422 screen, premiere of the film that will have special commentary after the film.

This is part of a 24 hour “Global Wake Up Call” re climate change with actions and activities (such as the Yes Men action, The Age of Stupid premiere, which are involving great organizations like Avaaz, 350.org, and others. See Climate Week NYC. Check out Tck Tck Tck for latest info.
